Presently we have around 600 Members here in NZ and that number is growing. The steady economic growth, benign government, well developed engineering sector and unrivalled life style opportunities have seen an increasing number of younger engineers make the move to this side of the world, either as a career move or as a life style choice.
At present the Civils market is strong and has come back a little from an overheated position. The long term outlook remains good in both, with both public sector and private funding continuing to keep the market moving.
There are the usual swings and roundabouts, with mid 2006 showing a slowing of the larger housing projects. This will be probably be compensated for by a realisation of the up lift in the infrastructure spend promised by the Government in mid to late 2006.
Nothing is absolute but there appears to be the will to continue to invest in the infrastructure necessary for growth and private sector confidence remains positive.
Our objective for the New Zealand branch of the ICE is to support and promote the international strategy of the ICE within New Zealand. The international strategy is set out on the ICE’s web site.
Our strategy for the branch of the ICE is to support those members of the ICE who reside temporarily or permanently in New Zealand who wish to maintain links with the ICE in the United Kingdom. The ICE aims to undertake the strategy by:
- Providing services that are relevant & valued by members and employers
- Maintaining and promoting high professional standards
- Providing an international source of skills and knowledge for tomorrow's engineering
- Being broad and inclusive of all those engaged in civil engineering
- Partnering with, and respect for, local relevant bodies locally, to support the engineering community in influencing governments and industry
Our vision, core values, and purpose drive all of our activity.
Our Vision: We will be recognised as the leading source of international knowledge and skills required to create a sustainable natural and built environment for the benefit of future generations
Our Core Values: Trust and honesty, ethical behaviour and integrity, high standards, quality and professionalism
Our Core Purpose: To set standards for qualification and registration of all engaged in civil engineering; to provide a knowledge exchange for best practice and to promote the contribution that we make to society.
